The Waltham Boys & Girls Club proudly accepted the well deserved 2010 MAC Award.  The Club was honored wtih the Silver Marketing & Communications Award for their outstanding efforts in Publicity/Media Relations.

The Club’s efforts consisted of working with media this past year highlighting the Club’s special events.  Events such as former Celtic’s players, Cedric Maxwell and Eddie House, hosting a basketball clinic for over 100 youth and a member appearing in a national Nickelodeon commercial highlighting the Club’s P.A.L.Swim Program.   

“This year we saw some amazing work from our Clubs and their efforts,” said Evan McElroy, Senior Vice President for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “Our Clubs have really taken the Be Great Campaign to the next level of marketing. We’re really impressed with the work they have and continue to produce to help generate awareness about the great work they are doing.” 

One of the more memorable moments for the Boys & Girls Club was the special visit by Paralympics Gold Medalist, April Holmes, in 2009. Holmes was an inspiration on her visit, especially to one Club member whom himself is a medal winner in the Special Olympics. To have a disability and have an icon to look up to such as April Holmes can truly have a significant impact on one’s life.  The Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s “Be Great” Campaign was integrated into the event along with April Holmes’ “Dare To Be Great” Campaign which is part of the overall national brand strategy.

The Waltham Boys & Girls Club is dedicted to inspiring and enabling all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.  The Waltham Boys & Girls Club provides program opportunities for nearly 1,200 members each year.  The Club is open to children ages 6-18, with an annual membership fee of only $15.
